Many companies have an executive director (chief of staff), but what that role entails can vary depending on the company's context. The chief of staff usually holds a position of responsibility and usually holds the position of vice president or, the larger the company, the higher the position in the hierarchy. This may vary from company to company. In general, however, a chief of staff depends on members of an organization's executive team or board of directors.
This almost always includes the company's CEO. While there is no formal road map for the transition, Organ's chiefs of staff have assumed executive positions. By optimizing executives' time, an effective chief of staff creates space in the top management workflow for leaders to consider the big picture, future opportunities, and top priorities. Just as important is that my chiefs of staff have created a system that allows me to focus on my CEO and my board of directors and, at the same time, make sure that everyday things don't fall by the wayside.
